An ELT research journey
It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

Welcome and thank you for visiting. My name is Derek Philip-Xu and these pages represent something of a teacher research journey for me.
I have been involved in English Language Teaching (ELT), teacher training, school management and educational publishing for almost 20 years. My educational experience has taken me to Japan, Spain and China. In 2009, I completed my Master of Education (Applied Linguistics) degree with The Open University, where my ELT research concentrated on action research for EFL teacher professional development and genre-based writing for my research projects. Please take a look at my research page for more information. In 2017, I completed my Masters in Educational Research with the University of Exeter, concentrating my classroom research on critical theory in relation to curriculum and materials development, professionalism and issues of identity, as well as reading digitally versus reading in print. Since then, I have continued working in educational publishing and have set up my own publishing business providing digital content development, project management, editorial and copywriting services.
